Jon Ortiz

Jon Ortiz is ecstatic to serve as the College Advisor for Hillcrest High School. Originally from western Massachusetts, he found his way down to Texas and graduated from Texas Christian University in 2018.  Jon received his Bachelor of Science in Combined Sciences (Biology & Environmental Science) with a minor in Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies.

Before becoming a college advisor, Jon spent four years serving the community of Fort Worth as a Youth Development Director for My Brother’s Keeper and a 7th Grade Texas History Educator. His extensive work in education, relationship building, and developing youth rehabilitation programs in underserved communities allowed him to see the disparities, lack of support, and empowerment among his students pursuing high education.
As a first-generation college student, Jon understands the overwhelming difficulties of the college process and the importance of higher education for someone and their community. Jon has a burning passion for helping students realize their true potential and to feel empowered.

When he isn’t working with his students, Jon is adventuring the great outdoors: rock climbing, hiking, kayaking, or walking his dogs. He also enjoys watching his favorite Rugby team play, reading, and exploring new cities.

Lexus Davis is excited to serve as the College Advisor for Hillcrest High School. Originally from West Philadelphia, she received a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Peace & Justice Studies from Gettysburg College.

Consistently asking the bigger questions of life, Lexus is always questioning institutional structures and looking for different solutions. Some examples include “how do I get to college” and “how do I succeed once I am there,” especially as someone who identifies as First-Gen. Lexus is an avid social justice advocate and is devoted to providing culturally diverse and underrepresented students the same opportunities afforded to her throughout her academic and professional career.

From cliff jumping in Nicaragua to wood carving in Indonesia, Lexus is like finding Waldo because who knows what her next adventure will be. When she is not off on an adventure, literally chasing waterfalls or editing essays, she is trying a new recipe, learning new dances, or painting.
